Health Kinesiology (HK), also known as Natural Bioenergetics (NB), promotes healing and well-being by combining gentle muscle testing with the principles of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM).

Health Kinesiology is a comprehensive therapeutic system that tackles both physical and mental challenges. The body’s innate wisdom guides the way—making it a safe and highly effective path to recovery.

This system excels in resolving issues such as stress, depression, anxiety, trauma, substance sensitivities, skin problems (eczema, acne, and more).

Both HK and TCM are based on the understanding that our well-being is dependent on the balanced flow of energy around our systems. Energy enlivens the particles of matter and informs them about how the physical body should structure itself and function.

Many factors can upset this flow of information, or energy, around our systems and put it out of balance, including:

  • environmental toxins
  • allergens
  • micro-organisms
  • electromagnetic fields and other frequencies
  • psychological stresses like worries, fears or limiting assumptions we may have about ourselves
  • traumas of all sorts

All of these may block the flow of information around our bodies – causing the affected parts to forget how to be structured and function correctly.

Our bodies are doing their best to communicate with us – that twinge of pain, the pang of indigestion, the headache, the backache, the depression, the general feeling of being out of sorts. All of these are signals from the body that we need to make positive changes in our lives.

Health Kinesiology takes a holistic approach, considering the entirety of an individual—physical, mental, emotional, and subtle levels. Each session is truly personalized, enabling practitioners to address individual needs effectively.

TCM – A Time-tested medical approach

TCM, has been embraced worldwide for millennia. One of TCM’s key components is Acupuncture, a natural therapy supported by robust clinical research. TCM focuses on identifying blockages in the flow of life force, known as Qi (Chi). These blockages are believed to underlie physical, mental, and emotional symptoms, collectively referred to as “dis-ease.”

Muscle Monitoring – A Unique System

Natural Bioenergetics employs Muscle Response Monitoring to pinpoint energy blockages. Once identified, this empowers practitioners to directly and effectively address these blockages. The testing can be done either on the client or on the practitioner (when working remotely). By restoring the healthy flow of Qi, the body can naturally heal without relying on external or potentially harmful interventions.

Muscle Response Monitoring allows direct communication between the body and the practitioner, bypassing mental interference. Through this process, the body reveals hidden imbalances and their root causes. Gentle muscle-testing opens a channel of communication that allows the body to select corrections that will re-balance it, so that the flow of information about correct structure and function is restored.

A brief history of Natural Bioenergetics/Health Kinesiology

In its modern practice, kinesiology evolved in the 20th century as doctors, osteopaths and chiropractors found that muscle massage improved internal bodily functions.

In the 1930s Dr Frank Chapman, an osteopath, found that his clients’ health improved when specific reflex points round the body were stimulated.

Another osteopath, Dr Terrance Bennett, found that a further set of reflex points improved the blood supply to specific parts of the body when they were held.

In the 1960s Dr George Goodheart, a chiropractor, recognised the link between the reflex points developed before him and the acupuncture meridian system of Traditional Chinese Medicine. He instituted a system he called Applied Kinesiology to integrate the two systems.

In the 1970s Jimmy Scott PhD, a psychologist, integrated muscle testing into his practice and Health Kinesiology was born.

Dr Scott’s solid understanding of the human electromagnetic energy system, psychology and psychophysiology informed his development of the HK system.

Jimmy Scott continued to develop NB/HK and, as it is practiced today, it offers a unique session structure that is clearly defined enough to guide the new practitioner and open-ended enough to include other therapeutic modalities.
